Dr. Stacee began her transition into a transgender woman at 19 years old. Growing up, she was humiliated, was treated as ‘other’ and felt ‘less than’. Dr. Stacee’s ‘family of choice’ supported her as she persevered. Now, she lives out and identifies herself as transgender and helps others move through their own experiences. Dr. Stacee shares these nuggets of life wisdom:
– let go of your past
– live your life in an authentic way
– free yourself from roles defined by others
– notice when those things come back up, but we are resilient
– our own experiences of being cast out seeded our creativity
– Dr. Stacee shares these 4 tools to transform our own experiences of ‘otherness’:
1 clarity, become clear on how it’s impacting us
2 compassion, forgive ourselves
3 creativity, it’s our path out of it
4 sass, this is how we move forward

Poonam is a survivor of sexual assault, abuse and the aftermath and cultural humiliation of divorce. Writing about her experiences was one of the hardest things she’s ever done. Today, she helps others overcome trauma, to enable them to feel lighter and better. Poonam shares these powerful nuggets of life wisdom:
– our lives are beautiful gifts
– we can take control of our lives
– we are the pivots of everything around us
– strive to acknowledge and embrace the pain
– how we react to those things is the key component
– by playing the self righteous victim, we justify feeling the way we do
– we are responsible for our own happiness
– life is short
– empower yourself to do the things you want to do without judgement
– it’s not selfish to take time for yourself
– touch base with how you feel
– the way we perceive the world is the way we perceive ourselves
– self care is not selfish

When Terry Sue’s alcoholic mother passed away, she embarked on a 40 year journey to search for her absent biological father. She realized she just simply wanted a sincere apology from him. Another challenge that Terry Sue faced was functional illiteracy. She feels a debt of gratitude for having escaped alcoholism and illiteracy, to where she is today, as a published author. Terry Sue shares these nuggets of life wisdom:
– perseverance is the key
– trust your intuition
– talking about the past can be helpful and take the shame out of it
– there is a way out of the dark and secretive mindset
– open up
– put language to those vague thoughts
– find community and comfort
