091 Ron Carucci

The loss of Ron’s brother and his upcoming TED talk were converging in the same moment. He didn’t know how we was going to honor both at the same time. Ron asked for practical, emotional and spiritual assistance, so that neither of these moments got too lost in the other. His family buoyed him, came along side of him and saw the importance of grieving, managing loss and the importance of celebrating a triumphant accomplishment. This enabled Ron to participate in both moments. He shares these powerful nuggets of life wisdom:

– accept your own limitations
– you have to ask for what you need
– seek a community around you for the triumphs and the tragedies
– surround yourself with people to join, care and set boundaries for you
– you get do-overs
– life gives you second chances
– too often we forfeit the opportunity for others to be our heroes
– sometimes we downplay our successes or triumphs
– allow others to share in the joy of your triumphs and successes
– we need others to narrate our transformations
– ask others to join you to narrate your life story and be intentional about what you want the outcome to be
– strive to be a hero, not a spectator, in your own life story
